Support Worker
Residential Support Workers required for Children's Home West Norwood London SW27 Support Workers £13.50 per hour (5 shifts per fortnight) over a Monday to Sunday period. You will be expected to sleep in after some of your shifts at an extra £50 Senior Support Workers £14.50 per hour We require staff for our new 3 Bed home supporting 11- 18 years with EBD Support Worker Duties and Responsibilities: Provide care for young people through: · Attending to practical matters in relation to childcare and running a home (cooking, cleaning etc) · Establishing positive relationships with young people and always offering them unconditional and positive regard · Meeting the physical, emotional, behavioural, cultural and educational needs of young people · Acting as a role model and demonstrating appropriate ways of dealing with problems · Helping young people gain self control by challenging unacceptable behaviour and rewarding them when they should have recognition · Ensuring that each young person’s care plan is followed and updated as appropriate to reflect their changing needs Support Worker Requirements Childcare qualification - NVQ or equivalent ( Preferred) · Candidates must be suitable to work with children & young people within a care setting (pre-employment checks) · Ability to relate to and communicate with young people forming and maintaining appropriate relationships and personal boundaries with young people · Awareness of safeguarding issues and ability to safeguard the welfare of young people · Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing · Ability to work under own initiative · Ability to take direction and work as part of a team · Ability to work in partnership and liaise with other professionals · Basic household and cooking skills · Ability to recognise and acknowledge training needs and respond appropriately · Emotional resilience in working with challenging behaviours · Understanding Equal Opportunities and Anti - Discriminatory Practice issues · Current clean driving licence · Previous experience of looking after children with EBD · Awareness of ofsted quality standards · Knowledge of Childcare legislation Senior Support Worker Duties include • Supporting and managing the staff team to meet the needs of the young person • Planning each shift and ensuring resources are allocated appropriately • Working with external professionals to deliver positive outcomes • Providing supervision and support to staff in line with Quality Standards • Supporting the young person to engage in education • Ensuring their health needs are met • Providing advice, support and guidance • Managing complex behaviours and crisis intervention • Administering and recording medication • Maintaining daily records and administrative work • Contributing to the care planning process • Liaising with external stakeholders and our multidisciplinary team • Attending mandatory training • Engaging in team meetings • Maintaining the home (laundry, cleaning, shopping, cooking, etc.) Senior Support Worker Requirements Please note applicants MUST meet the following requirements; * Able to work Full time * A full UK driving license ( preferred ) * Right to work in the UK (we do not offer sponsorship) * An understanding that this role will require that you undertake Enhanced DBS checks * You need to be able to work flexibly in caring for the children.
