We are recruiting Teaching Assistants to work within a specialist secondary SEMH setting, supporting students who may present with complex social, emotional and mental health needs. This role is ideally suited to individuals who take a trauma-informed, relationship-led approach and are committed to helping young people feel safe, valued, and understood.
About the role
As a Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting students both inside and outside of the classroom. Many of the young people you will work with may have experienced trauma, adverse childhood experiences, and disrupted learning journeys. Your ability to provide consistency, structure, and positive role modelling will be essential in helping them re-engage with education.
This is a temp to perm opportunity, offering long-term stability for the right candidate.
Your role will include:
Providing 1:1 and small group support tailored to individual needs
Acting as a positive, reliable adult role model for students
Supporting students to regulate emotions and manage behaviour
Assisting with lesson delivery and adapting activities where required
Using de-escalation techniques and trauma-informed strategies in challenging situations
Helping to maintain a calm, purposeful, and safe learning environment
We are looking for candidates who:
Have experience working with secondary-aged young people with SEMH needs or behavioural challenges
Understand the impact of trauma and the importance of attachment-aware practice
Are calm, consistent, and able to maintain clear boundaries
Can build mutual respect and rapport with students who may be reluctant to engage
Are committed to working full-time, Monday to Friday, 08:30 – 15:30 (term time only)
Are motivated by making a genuine difference in young people’s lives

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
