Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) Electrician
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance on TBMs and tunnelling plant
- Diagnose and repair electrical faults on motors, drives, PLC systems, conveyors, pumps, ventilation systems, and power distribution equipment
- Respond rapidly to breakdowns to minimise operational downtime
- Assist with TBM assembly, commissioning, operation, and demobilisation
- Install and maintain temporary and permanent electrical services underground and on surface
- Interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical drawings
- Perform testing, inspection, and fault-finding on HV/LV systems
- Ensure all work is completed safely and in line with site procedures and electrical regulations
- Work closely with mechanical and production teams to maintain continuous tunnelling operations
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and reports
Requirements
- NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation or recognised electrical apprenticeship
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification
- ECS/JIB Gold Card preferred
- CSCS/CPCS
- Experience working within tunnelling, heavy industrial, mining, rail, water, or construction environments
- Strong knowledge of motors, drives, switchgear, control systems, and PLC fault-finding
- Previous TBM or underground tunnelling experience highly desirable
- Ability to work shifts, including nights and weekends where required
- Strong understanding of health & safety within high-risk environments
Desirable.
- Experience with Herrenknecht TBM's
- HV Switching Autorisation
- Confined Space and Safety Critical Medical certification (Medium Risk)
- First Aid qualification.
