Waste Operations Officer

Location: Various sites across Leicestershire (RHWS, WTS & County Hall)
Pay: Competitive (negotiable for candidates with relevant experience and a valid COTC)
Hours: 37 hours per week (occasional weekend work required)
Contract: 6 months initially, with potential to extend

We are seeking an experienced Waste Operations Officer to oversee the day-to-day management of operational staff across Leicestershire's Recycling and Household Waste Sites (RHWS) and Waste Transfer Stations (WTS). This is a hands-on, field-based management role requiring regular travel between sites.

Key Responsibilities

* Manage and support operational site teams, including HR processes, performance management, and staff development.

* Deliver training, toolbox talks, and safety briefings.

* Ensure compliance with health & safety procedures, environmental permits, and Waste Duty of Care legislation.

* Monitor waste movement records, site documentation, and quality management processes.

* Manage stock levels of PPE, equipment, fuel, and site consumables.

* Handle customer queries and complaints professionally.

* Occasionally drive a Council 3.5-tonne vehicle.

Requirements

* Experience managing operational teams within waste management or a similar environment.

* Strong communication, IT, and organisational skills.

* Experience delivering training and managing compliance.

* Full UK driving licence, access to a vehicle, and business-use insurance.

* A valid Level 4 Certificate of Technical Competence (COTC) is desirable and may attract a higher rate of pay.

Mileage and business expenses are paid in line with Council policy (excluding normal commuting). This is an excellent opportunity to join a busy public sector team and play a key role in delivering safe, compliant, and efficient waste operations across Leicestershire
