Wording Specialist – Insurance Hybrid – Office-Based (Frequency depends on home location) to £60,000 per annum Role Overview of Wording Specialist An established and growing insurer is seeking an experienced Wording Specialist to support the ongoing development, governance, and control of policy wordings and technical documentation across a diverse portfolio of delegated authority schemes. The Wording Specialist will act as a central liaison between underwriting, compliance, product, IT, and insurer partners, ensuring that documentation is clear, accurate, and fully compliant with FCA regulation, Product Governance frameworks, and Consumer Duty requirements. This is a key role in maintaining high-quality standards, managing change initiatives, and driving operational excellence across complex multi-scheme environments. Key Responsibilities of the Wording Specialist * Draft, review, and maintain policy wordings and related technical documentation, including endorsements, IPIDs, schedules, certificates, governance templates, and customer communications. * Translate underwriting, regulatory, and business requirements into controlled documentation updates across systems. * Ensure all documentation aligns with FCA expectations, Product Governance frameworks, Consumer Duty requirements, insurer delegations, and internal standards. * Assess proposed wording and system changes, identifying regulatory, underwriting, operational, and customer risks, escalating where necessary. * Manage updates across policy administration and document generation systems, maintaining version control, auditability, and quality. * Support or lead proofreading, system integration testing, and user acceptance testing to ensure clarity and accuracy. * Maintain clear change records and knowledge-base documentation to support renewals, operational resilience, and regulatory review. * Collaborate with underwriting, product, compliance, IT, insurers, and third-party providers to ensure effective delivery of changes. * Monitor regulatory developments and emerging risks to keep documentation market-leading. * Provide timely, clear communication to stakeholders on change status, priorities, and delivery. Essential Skills & Experience of the Wording Specialist * Expert understanding of insurance policy wordings and contract structures, gained within an MGA, insurer, or delegated authority environment. * Strong knowledge of FCA regulation, Product Governance, and Consumer Duty as they relate to policy documentation. * Expert underwriting knowledge with strong risk awareness and technical expertise. * Confident and engaging communicator with strong presentation and stakeholder management skills, able to work effectively with both technical and non-technical teams. * Exceptional attention to detail, capable of managing multiple projects, workstreams, and change initiatives across complex schemes. * Strong organisational skills and ability to maintain clarity under pressure. Desirable: * Chartered Insurance Institute qualification (ACII/DIP) or progression towards it.
