Job Title: Sheet Metal Workshop Manager

Location: Herftfordshire

Reports To: Operations Manager / Production Manager

Employment Type: Full-Time

Job Summary

The Sheet Metal Workshop Manager is responsible for overseeing daily operations within the sheet metal fabrication workshop. This role ensures efficient production, high-quality output, safe working practices, and effective team management. The manager coordinates workflow, supervises staff, maintains equipment, and ensures projects are delivered on time and within budget.

Key Responsibilities

Manage day-to-day workshop operations, including fabrication, assembly, and finishing processes

Plan and schedule production to meet customer deadlines and operational targets

Supervise, train, and support workshop staff, including fabricators, welders, and machine operators

Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and company policies

Monitor quality standards and implement continuous improvement initiatives

Coordinate with engineering, sales, and procurement teams to ensure smooth project execution

Oversee material usage, stock levels, and ordering requirements

Maintain workshop equipment and arrange servicing or repairs as needed

Track productivity and performance metrics, identifying areas for improvement

Resolve technical and operational issues within the workshop

Conduct performance reviews and manage staff development

Required Skills & Qualifications

Proven experience in sheet metal fabrication or manufacturing environment

Previous supervisory or management experience

Strong knowledge of fabrication techniques (cutting, bending, welding, forming)

Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications

Excellent leadership and team management skills

Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities

Good organizational and time management skills

Familiarity with workshop machinery (press brakes, guillotines, laser cutters, etc.)

Knowledge of health and safety regulations in a manufacturing environment

Proficiency in basic computer applications (production planning, spreadsheets, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications

Relevant technical certification or apprenticeship in sheet metal fabrication

Experience with lean manufacturing or continuous improvement methods

First aid or health & safety certification

Experience with ERP or production planning software

Working Conditions

Workshop-based role with regular exposure to machinery and noise

Requires use of personal protective equipment (PPE)

May involve occasional overtime to meet production deadlines
