Health & Safety Manager
Health & Safety Manager Interior Fit-Out Contractor | Office-Based, Central London | £60,000 – £70,000 per annum Job Title: Health & Safety Manager Reporting To: Health & Safety Director & Operations Director Salary: £60,000 – £70,000 per annum Location: Office-based, Central London (regular weekly site visits across Central London) Hours: 08:00 – 17:00, Monday to Friday Contract Type: Permanent, Full-Time Sector: Interior Fit-Out / Commercial Construction About the Role This is an exciting opportunity for an H&S professional who wants to do more than produce paperwork. Our client are looking for someone who understands the pace and culture of interior fit-out — someone who can walk a live site, immediately earn the respect of a project team, and work shoulder-to-shoulder with project managers to find practical, proportionate solutions to health and safety challenges. This role sits at the heart of our operations. You'll report into both the Health & Safety Director and the Operations Director, which reflects how central H&S is to the way we deliver our projects. You won't be a clipboard-carrier; you'll be a trusted partner to the business. What You'll Be Doing • Working directly alongside project management teams to embed a proactive safety culture across all live fit-out projects • Conducting regular site inspections, audits and risk assessments — but crucially, following them up with actionable, pragmatic solutions rather than simply issuing reports • Developing and maintaining project-specific H&S plans, Construction Phase Plans (CPPs), and method statements • Acting as the go-to advisor for site managers and project managers on all H&S matters, with a solutions-first mindset • Investigating incidents, near-misses and dangerous occurrences and driving corrective action • Managing relationships with the HSE, clients, principal contractors, and other key stakeholders Page: 1/3 • Monitoring compliance with CDM Regulations and all relevant legislation across the project portfolio • Contributing to tender submissions where H&S capability is assessed • Reporting regularly to the H&S Director and Operations Director with clear, meaningful MI • Identifying and implementing training needs across the business and supporting the development of the wider team About You The technical knowledge matters, but the attitude matters more. We need someone who gets things done collaboratively, not someone who sits on the outskirts directing traffic. Interior fit- out is fast-moving — decisions get made quickly and timelines are tight. You'll need to be adaptable, and genuinely respected by the people you work with. Essential: • NEBOSH Construction Certificate (minimum) or NEBOSH Diploma — degree-level equivalent preferred • Proven experience in an H&S role within interior fit-out, refurbishment, or commercial construction • Strong working knowledge of CDM 2015 Regulations • Demonstrable track record of working collaboratively with operational and project management teams • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills — able to influence at all levels, from site operative to director • Solid understanding of the pace, pressures, and culture of a fit-out environment Desirable: • IOSH membership (Grad IOSH or CMIOSH) • Experience as a Main Contractor or Sub-Contractor H&S lead • SMSTS or SSSTS qualified • First Aid at Work certificate • Experience contributing to H&S sections of tender submissions The Kind of Person We're Looking For Our client are quite deliberate about the personality fit here. You'll thrive in this role if you: • Are naturally collaborative — you see H&S as a team sport, not a solo policing mission Page: 2/3 • Can hold a firm position when it matters, but do so constructively and with the bigger picture in mind • Are energised by a busy, varied project environment rather than an office-bound compliance function • Take ownership and follow through — when you identify a risk, you don't just log it, you help fix it • Have a genuine interest in continuous improvement, not just regulatory compliance What Our Client Offers • Competitive salary of £60,000 – £70,000 per annum (dependent on experience) • A genuine seat at the table — you'll report into two directors and your voice will be heard • A collaborative, no-nonsense working culture that values practical expertise • Office-based role with regular weekly site visits across Central London • Standard working hours of 08:00 – 17:00, Monday to Friday • Ongoing professional development and support for further qualifications
