SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Manchester
Pay Rate: £95–£110 per day DOE
Start Date: September 2026
Contract: Full-time, Monday to Friday

Are you an experienced Teaching Assistant with a passion for supporting young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? Do you thrive in a role where no two days are the same and every small success makes a difference?

Cover People are recruiting a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist provision in Manchester. This rewarding opportunity involves supporting pupils with a range of social, emotional and behavioural needs, helping them to engage positively with education and develop the skills needed to succeed both in and out of the classroom.

The school provides a highly structured and supportive learning environment, placing a strong emphasis on building confidence, emotional resilience and positive relationships. Staff work collaboratively to ensure every pupil receives the individual support they need to achieve their goals.

The Role:

Support pupils with SEMH needs throughout the school day.
Build strong, positive relationships to encourage engagement and progress.
Provide 1:1 and small-group support tailored to individual needs.
Assist with behaviour management using restorative and trauma-informed approaches.
Support pupils in developing emotional regulation, social skills and independence.
Work closely with teachers, pastoral teams and external professionals to support student outcomes.

The Ideal Candidate:

Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, SEND or behavioural needs.
A calm, resilient and proactive approach.
Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
Confidence managing challenging behaviours in a positive and consistent manner.
A genuine passion for helping vulnerable young people achieve their potential.
